Emergency Communitcation

All private residence elevators MUST have a means of communication provided in the elevator car. This may be built into the C.O.P. or a separate component in the car. A line powered telephone is best for this as it will continue to operate in the event of a power failure. In the rare event of an elevator failure the telephone will allow anyone trapped in the elevator to call for help. For this reason it is advisable to post the phone number of your elevator service company in or on the telephone or its cabinet.

The emergency telephone is a CRUCIAL SAFETY FEATURE that can prevent serious injury or death from entrapment. It is a good practice to check the phone for a dial tone regularly.
